Co-Occurring Disorders

Treatment in Maine

Integrated Care for Addiction and Mental Health at Connections Behavioral Health

At Connections Behavioral Health, also known as Recovery Connections of Maine, we understand that many individuals struggling with addiction also face underlying mental health challenges. Our Co-Occurring Disorders Program provides comprehensive, integrated treatment for people in Maine battling both substance use and mental health disorders. We specialize in helping individuals facing opioid use disorder, methamphetamine or cocaine addiction, as well as co-existing mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

What Are Co-Occurring Disorders?

Co-occurring disorders, also known as dual diagnosis, occur when a person experiences both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition at the same time. Common examples include:

  • Opioid addiction and anxiety

  • Methamphetamine or cocaine use and depression

  • Alcohol or stimulant use combined with PTSD or mood disorders

Both conditions can interact and worsen each other, making it essential to treat them together—not separately.

Our Approach to Co-Occurring Treatment

At Connections Behavioral Health, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We create personalized treatment plans that address the complex needs of individuals facing both addiction and mental health struggles.

We provide care in a compassionate, judgment-free environment, where individuals can work toward both sobriety and improved mental well-being. Our integrated treatment includes:
